![]() ![]() Community Outreach CommitteeCall from Christ for Social Justice: “Inherit the Kingdom…For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink… naked and you clothed me…whatever you did for the least of my brothers, you did for me”, Matthew 25. What is Outreach at St. Timothy’s? Through our Outreach programs we have fed the hungry. Food collected each week (One-Can-A-Week) is delivered to Catholic Worker House in Hartford’s north end; the Thanksgiving Bag-a-Meal goes to St. Peter’s Church in Hartford; donations of food and $$$ traditionally go to Foodshare. We have also provided cookware and small appliances to those learning how to prepare more nutritious meals for their families. An ongoing collection provides toiletries for the homeless. We have worked towards answering Christ’s call to clothe the naked by providing winter coats for children at several elementary schools; socks and underwear for homeless shelters; diapers for distribution to young parents. To provide a reading incentive for inner city children, books are collected and distributed though a We have helped with provisioning · We have been mindful of world emergencies and have donated to Haitian relief; we provided a boat for a family who lost their livelihood in the tsunami. · Our goal is to help those in need, to be the heart and hands of Christ. In the past we have helped at neighborhood Christmas parties in the North End; we have worked on Home Front Day to refurbish a home for someone in dire circumstances. The needs are endless and the opportunities to serve are limitless.
There are 3 or 4 planning meetings each year; at that time we try to assess the needs, review the Parish Charitable Giving budget, review past programs and look for new ways to serve. We are always open to new ideas. Each committee member can do as much or as little as their circumstances allow. Generally, each person works on one of our food, clothing or other drives. There are many ways to serve. How do I Become an Outreach Committee Member? call or email: Maureen Brouillard or Ellen Pelkey phone: email: mmbrouillard@sbcglobal.net email: pelkeye@sbcglobal.net |
